Description: This is a nice mecate to use on your 2 rein bosalita, your snaffle, or to use at home on any hackamore. This Round 3/8″ Nylon Mecate #DMR3, also called a McCarty, is 22 feet long and is made of round 3/8-inch nylon rope. It has a nylon tassel on one end and a latigo popper on the other end. Because of the narrow diameter this is a good rein for smaller hands. The mecate is only available in brown. The tan mecate shown in the picture on the horse is currently unavailable.

Price range: $70.00 through $87.00Description: Our handmade Romal Reins Connecting Straps #ZO are made of latigo leather with rawhide loop keepers. They are 1/2 inch wide and have 5 adjustment holes (with room for more) to allow you to change the length between 4 1/2 and 6 inches. The roller buckles are stainless steel. The leather beneath each buckle is hand stitched together to prevent the buckle from slipping down the strap during adjustments. The hand braided rawhide loop keepers make these quality straps even more beautiful. They add a nice accent to rawhide, kangaroo or leather romal reins!
How they work: These straps will safely connect your romal reins to your bit. The stainless steel roller buckles allow easy and quick adjustments in length. These straps will work with or without snaps. Three inch stainless steel bolt snaps (shown in photos of horses) are available in the dropdown for an extra $17.00. If you order snaps we’ll put them on the straps before we ship them.

Rawhide Romal Reins #CCR1
$950.00Description: These 16 plait Rawhide Romal Reins are made of finely hand braided rawhide with 45 buttons and 9 barrel knots. The popper is hand stamped doubled and stitched skirting leather. The reins are braided 3/8 inch in diameter. The romal and reins are connected with an 1/2 inch latigo strap with rawhide balls and loops. The reins come with stainless steel swivel snaps. The romal and reins are each 48 inches long and the leather with rawhide connectors are 12 inches for a total of 108 inches. If you want to use rein chains and need a shorter rein give us a call at 832-529-9226 and we’ll make them just the way you want them. All of the rawhide at Dennis Moreland Tack is produced entirely by hand from start to finish before being braided. These romal reins are supple with a great feel and are being used by professional horsemen.

$265.00Description: To make this 1/2 inch mecate, six strands of mane-hair are firmly twisted on a horse hair core to 1/2 inch. This mecate, sometimes called a McCarty, is 22 feet long and used on both hackamores and snaffle bits. This 1/2″ 6 Strand Mane-Hair Mecate #DK3 will meet the requirements of even the most discriminating reinsman.
We will be happy to tie this mecate to a bosal if you purchase one but you may need to adjust the number of wraps to fit your horse after you receive it. How it works: Horse mane-hair mecates are widely used in the California-vaquero tradition. They are traditionally used on both hackamores and snaffle bits. A horse responds to the feel of the horse hair on their neck better than to many other materials. The traditional material and patterns also look exceptionally good on our horses. $149.00Description: If you’ve got smaller hands and are looking for a double and stitched rein with body and drape but not too much bulk these are a good pick. In your choice of 7 feet or 7 feet 9 inches long, these Medium Weight Latigo on Latigo 1/2 Inch Reins are our best selling double & stitched reins for ladies and youth with small hands. Because they are light, but drape so well when a horse is shown on a really loose rein, these are also a favorite with reiners. We make the 7’9″ length for average size horses. The 7′ length works for those who are training the smaller cutting & cow horse colts and for disciplines like ranch sorting where horses are shown gathered up through continuous quick turns. These are made of medium weight leather that’s approximately 18 oz. making the reins 9/32nd of an inch thick after they’re stitched together.
