Description: If you like a mecate made of densely braided rope with a lot of feel, this is a good one. The Round 5/8 Inch Nylon Mecate #DMR5 is 22 feet long and is made of round 5/8 inch braid-on-braid nylon rope. This mecate, also known as a McCarty, has a nylon tassel at one end and 5/8 inch leather popper at the opposite end (the rawhide popper and tassel with rawhide button shown in the pictures is unavailable). This is a great mecate to use on your hackamores and your snaffle bits. It comes in your choice of brown or tri-color (pictured on horse). Make your selection in the dropdown.

This mecate, sometimes called a McCarty, is 22 feet long and used on both hackamores and snaffle bits. How it works: Horse mane-hair mecates are widely used in the California-vaquero tradition. They are traditionally used on both hackamores and snaffle bits. A horse responds to the feel of the horse hair on their neck better than to many other materials. The traditional material and patterns also look exceptionally good on our horses. This is the ultimate horse hair rope.

$135.00Description: We recommend these reins if you’re riding colts or other small horses. These heavy harness leather reins measure 6 1/2 to 7 feet long and 5/8 inch wide. These are also an ideal length if you’re riding in a snaffle, sidepull, sliding gag, or German martingale. They are long enough to have plenty of rein to work with but they won’t drag the ground or get in your way on those colts and horses that are under 14.2 hands.

This is a longer version of the X reins, averaging 7 1/2 to over 8 feet in length and they are 5/8 inch wide. These reins offer the flexibility of a longer rein without the added weight of the XX, XXX or XXXX reins.
Crafting: These are cut in pairs from the best hides, hand edged, hand rubbed, oiled and hand rubbed again before they’re shipped to you. This tight fibered harness leather will last for years of hard use. These are stamped X on the ends, just like the Dennis Moreland X Reins, the difference is in the length. These reins are hand made from heavy harness leather and are 7 to 7 1/2 feet long and 5/8 inch wide which gives you enough length to pitch your horse the slack when you lay your hand down. These are short enough to ride our little cutters with or ride with contact or tune on your horse when needed and heavy enough to show in.
