Description: If you like a mecate made of densely braided rope with a lot of feel, this is a good one. The Round 5/8 Inch Nylon Mecate #DMR5 is 22 feet long and is made of round 5/8 inch braid-on-braid nylon rope. This mecate, also known as a McCarty, has a nylon tassel at one end and 5/8 inch leather popper at the opposite end (the rawhide popper and tassel with rawhide button shown in the pictures is unavailable). This is a great mecate to use on your hackamores and your snaffle bits. It comes in your choice of brown or tri-color (pictured on horse). Make your selection in the dropdown.

Latigo Roping Rein with Rawhide Knots #RR23
$135.00Description: This Latigo Roping Rein with Rawhide Knots #RR23 is built with hand braided rawhide knots on each end for easy and quick change-outs between bridles. The end of each rein has a slot that slides over the rawhide knot to attach the rein to the bit. The rawhide and the latigo tassels look great on the ends of this rein!
This rein is 5/8 inch wide and 7 1/2 feet long. The latigo has been hand edged, hand rubbed, oiled with Neatsfoot Oil and hand rubbed again for that great feel in your hands. The slots and rawhide knots allow you to change this rein in a snap and they hold the rein securely after they’re attached.

1/2″ 6 Strand Mane-Hair Mecate #DK3
$265.00Description: To make this 1/2 inch mecate, six strands of mane-hair are firmly twisted on a horse hair core to 1/2 inch. This mecate, sometimes called a McCarty, is 22 feet long and used on both hackamores and snaffle bits. This 1/2″ 6 Strand Mane-Hair Mecate #DK3 will meet the requirements of even the most discriminating reinsman.
We will be happy to tie this mecate to a bosal if you purchase one but you may need to adjust the number of wraps to fit your horse after you receive it. There are various colors available including sorrels, greys, blacks and whites. Please call 832-529-9226 for color availability. If we don’t hear from you, we will choose the color.
How it works: Horse mane-hair mecates are widely used in the California-vaquero tradition. They are traditionally used on both hackamores and snaffle bits. A horse responds to the feel of the horse hair on their neck better than to many other materials. The traditional material and patterns also look exceptionally good on our horses. This is the ultimate horse hair rope.

$149.00Description: If you’re looking for a very heavy rein with a lot of feel then this harness on latigo double and stitched rein is for you.
Custom cut from harness leather and lined with latigo leather, these reins are 5/8” wide and 7’9” long. The stitching is compressed tightly into the leather. As with all of Dennis’ reins, these are hand edged, rubbed with saddle soap, oiled and saddle soaped again to give the leather a tremendous feel in your hands. Trainers tell us they love these reins for their weight and feel. They will last for years.

Price range: $70.00 through $87.00Description: Our handmade Romal Reins Connecting Straps #ZO are made of latigo leather with rawhide loop keepers. They are 1/2 inch wide and have 5 adjustment holes (with room for more) to allow you to change the length between 4 1/2 and 6 inches. The roller buckles are stainless steel. The leather beneath each buckle is hand stitched together to prevent the buckle from slipping down the strap during adjustments. The hand braided rawhide loop keepers make these quality straps even more beautiful. They add a nice accent to rawhide, kangaroo or leather romal reins!
How they work: These straps will safely connect your romal reins to your bit. The stainless steel roller buckles allow easy and quick adjustments in length. These straps will work with or without snaps. Three inch stainless steel bolt snaps (shown in photos of horses) are available in the dropdown for an extra $17.00. If you order snaps we’ll put them on the straps before we ship them.
