Description: The noseband on this Double Rope Hackamore is made of 2 pieces of 3/8 inch nylon rope. At 5 inches in width between the cheeks this hackamore is 12 inches in length from top to bottom. We can make additional sizes but you will need to call 832-529-9226 to special order. This hackamore is made with a browband headstall, fiador and with your choice of hackamore rein (see dropdown).
Rein Choice: You can see the reins available in the hackamore rein category. The rein you choose will be tied to the hackamore before we send it.
How it works: The double rope hackamore pulls over a wider area on the bridge of the nose than the #HV20 Single Rope Hackamore. This causes the hackamore to give a slightly softer and milder signal. The weight of the heel knot allows it to fall quickly when the pressure on the reins is released which in turn releases the pressure of the noseband on the face. This series of events happens smoothly and quickly to reward the horse instantly for a proper response. This is a perfect hackamore to start colts in.

How it works: This hackamore gives the strongest signal from the pull on the rein of all the hackamores made at Dennis Moreland Tack. The heel knot gives you instant release when the rein pressure is released thereby rewarding the horse instantly for a proper response. We do not recommended this hackamore for riding or training colts but it can be a very good hackamore for those horses that are not very sensitive to the pull.

Grass Hackamore with Reins #HV10
$333.00Description: The Grass Hackamore with Reins is made entirely of one-piece of hand-braided 1/2 inch grass rope. The nose button is covered in hand-braided rawhide and the grass rope is spliced wide at the bottom to give more sidepull action. The hackamore has a 3/4 inch leather headstall with double and stitched browband and a 1/4 inch nylon fiador.
How it works: This hackamore gives a little bit stronger signal on the nose, because of the both the texture and the firmness of the braided rawhide, than a soft rope hackamore. This makes it a particularly good hackamore for loping horses that want to be a little strong in a soft rope hackamore. It’s also great to ride colts with because the reins are spliced widely on the base of the noseband to give more lateral direction when a rein is pulled. It can be used for all types of riding on any horse that works well with a fairly mild signal on its nose.

Bosal 5/8 Inch #HU2

We have this hackamore available in a variety of patterns which may include all rawhide, all kangaroo, rawhide body with kangaroo nose button and heel knot or kangaroo body with rawhide nose button and heel knot. Bosal size: The 5/8 Inch Bosal is hand hand braided of hand beveled rawhide and or kangaroo for a smooth finish. The core is 12 plait and the 7 inch nose button is 20 plait. At 5 inches in width between the hanger buttons this bosal is available in 10, 11 & 12 inch lengths from top to bottom (see picture for a guide to sizing). General recommendations for bosal length: the 10 inch bosal will fit a horse with a small muzzle, usually those 14.2 hands and under that weigh 900 lbs. or less. The 11 inch bosal will fit a medium size muzzle and will fit the majority of horses. The 12 inch bosal is made to fit a larger horse, generally those horses 15.2 hands and over that weigh 1250 lbs. or more, but is dependent on muzzle size. Call to see if we currently have the size you need available.
Heel knot: The heel knots on all Dennis Moreland Tack Bosals are heavy to give instant release when the pressure on the mecate is released. A special addition to all Dennis Moreland Bosals is the spacer inside the heel knot, between the cores, which gives the mecate space to lay correctly. This is a very nice improvement over bosals with no spacer.
Hanger: This bosal comes with a handmade 3/8 inch Latigo California Style Hanger. The hanger is hand edged, rubbed, and waxed.
Mecates: You may buy the bosal without a mecate or with one of 3 mecate options: the DMR5 Nylon Mecate or the #DK3 or #DK5 Mane Hair Mecates (select in the dropdown above).
#DMR5 Mecate: The #DMR5 mecate is made of round 5/8 inch brown braid on braid or tri-color nylon rope with a tassel at one end and a 5/8 inch leather popper at the opposite end. It is 22 feet long. For more info click #DMR5 Round 5/8 inch Nylon Mecate.
#DK3 and #DK5 Mecates: These Mecates are made of six strands of horse mane hair. They have been firmly twisted by hand on a horse hair core to 1/2 inch (#DK3) or 5/8 inch (#DK5). They will meet the requirements of refined feel for even the most discriminating horseman or horsewoman. Either mecate is 22 feet long. There are various colors available including sorrels, greys, blacks and whites. Please call for color availability. If we don’t hear from you we will choose the color. Sidepull #CP38
$199.00Description: The noseband on the Sidepull #CP38 is made of 3/8 inch firm nylon rope specially designed to lay correctly from the first ride. The headstall is made of single ply, 3/4 inch, dense, tight-fibered harness leather and has a 5/8 inch throat latch. The leather has been edged, hand-rubbed, oiled with Neatsfoot Oil and hand-rubbed again. The buckles and rings are all stainless steel.
Reins: If you’d like to purchase reins for your Sidepull some of our most popular choices are the #ASR6 DM Harness Leather Split Reins, or the #BLL1 Latigo on Latigo 5/8″ medium weight reins. At 6 1/2 to 7 feet either of these reins will work well on the smaller colt or horse. At 7 to 7 1/2 feet, the #ASR3 XX Harness Leather Split Reins are a good choice for the bigger colt or horse (generally 15 to 16 hands). Many of our other reins can also be used on this Sidepull. How it works: Sidepulls are a good piece of equipment to use for starting colts, or to transition colts to from a soft rope hackamore. Using a sidepull is a nice way to teach young horses to move through turns with their noses first without putting any pressure on their delicate mouths. Once the colt is turning well with direct pressure from the sidepull a trainer will move to the snaffle, hackamore or bosal.

Single Rope Hackamore with Rawhide Nose #HV21
Price range: $332.00 through $442.00Description: This is a beautiful hackamore that fits correctly. The nose button is covered in hand braided rawhide. Each strand of the rawhide is beveled by hand on all 4 edges so it lays smoothly on your horses face. The noseband is 5 inches wide between the cheeks and 10 1/2 inches long.
The headstall is made of single ply Hermann Oak harness leather and the brow band is doubled and stitched. The headstall adjustment buckles are stainless steel. This hackamore comes with a nylon fiador. The fiador is easy to tie (ties just like a rope halter) and will prevent the hackamore from being pulled or rubbed off.
Rein choice: This hackamore is available with any rein in the hackamore rein category. Make your selection in the dropdown. The rein you choose will be tied to the hackamore before it’s sent to you.
How it works: Besides being eye-catching, the rawhide on the nose button gives a slightly stronger signal than a plain rope noseband gives. It also keeps the hackamore rounded across the nose.
