Description: “Take ‘em up to rope, let ‘em out to ride” This DM 5/8″ Adjustable Roping Rein is crafted from 5/8″ racetrack harness leather that has been edged, hand-rubbed, treated with Neatsfoot Oil and hand-rubbed again for a great feel. The beveled stainless steel buckle is sewn in. This adjustable roping rein has stainless steel snaps and a wire loop. The rein adjusts to between 7 and 7 1/2 feet.

Custom cut from harness leather and lined with latigo leather, these reins are 5/8” wide and 7’9” long. The stitching is compressed tightly into the leather. $135.00Description: Not everyone likes heavier reins so we cut these X reins out of lighter-weight hides. These reins average 7 to 7 1/2 feet long and are 5/8 inch wide. The attention to detail is still here, just offered in a lighter-weight version. They are ideal for ranchers who want to ride with a lighter rein than the XX. During the winter, these reins will stay supple when you’re checking cows in the cold.

1/2″ 6 Strand Mane-Hair Mecate #DK3
$265.00Description: To make this 1/2 inch mecate, six strands of mane-hair are firmly twisted on a horse hair core to 1/2 inch. This mecate, sometimes called a McCarty, is 22 feet long and used on both hackamores and snaffle bits. This 1/2″ 6 Strand Mane-Hair Mecate #DK3 will meet the requirements of even the most discriminating reinsman.
We will be happy to tie this mecate to a bosal if you purchase one but you may need to adjust the number of wraps to fit your horse after you receive it. How it works: Horse mane-hair mecates are widely used in the California-vaquero tradition. They are traditionally used on both hackamores and snaffle bits. A horse responds to the feel of the horse hair on their neck better than to many other materials. The traditional material and patterns also look exceptionally good on our horses. Latigo on Latigo 5/8″ Reins, Medium Weight #BLL1
$145.00Description: Dennis cuts these doubled and stitched reins 5/8” wide. He makes them in two lengths: 7′ for horses under 14.2 hands and 7’9” for horses over 14.2 (see dropdown for choices). These Latigo on Latigo 5/8″ medium weight reins have very good feel and body.
To make these reins Dennis sews 2 pieces of latigo leather together with small, tight stitches. This makes the reins 9/32nd of an inch thick. All of the work is done by hand. He edges these reins by hand, rubs them, oils them and rubs them again.
How they work: This is Dennis’ 50th year making cowboy tack and he knows which leather makes the best reins. He personally chooses each hide he uses to make sure you’ll have good even contact and communication with your horse. There are no gray signals with these reins.
These are our best selling doubled and stitched reins and are a favorite in the show ring. They will hold their flexibility and shape even in cold weather and they are built to last.

$135.00Description: These XXX 5/8-inch-wide reins are heavy and at 7 1/2 to 8 feet are long enough to really roll them some slack. This length is ideal for those who show horses in a variety of classes in the curb bit. They give you the feel you need to win. The reins lay nicely off your horse’s neck and shoulder when held in one hand but they’re not so long that they’ll drag or get stepped on. The tail of these reins won’t interfere with your horse’s natural gait.
