Description: This doubled and stitched loop rein is made of medium weight leather. Dennis cuts this 3/4″ Latigo on Latigo Loop Rein 7 feet long. All of the work to make this rein is done by hand. They are edged, rubbed, oiled and rubbed again by hand to give them exceptional feel.
This loop rein makes a great training rein and is excellent for roping.

Price range: $70.00 through $87.00Description: Our handmade Romal Reins Connecting Straps #ZO are made of latigo leather with rawhide loop keepers. They are 1/2 inch wide and have 5 adjustment holes (with room for more) to allow you to change the length between 4 1/2 and 6 inches. The roller buckles are stainless steel. The leather beneath each buckle is hand stitched together to prevent the buckle from slipping down the strap during adjustments. The Round 5/8 Inch Nylon Mecate #DMR5 is 22 feet long and is made of round 5/8 inch braid-on-braid nylon rope. This mecate, also known as a McCarty, has a nylon tassel at one end and 5/8 inch leather popper at the opposite end (the rawhide popper and tassel with rawhide button shown in the pictures is unavailable). $265.00Description: To make this 1/2 inch mecate, six strands of mane-hair are firmly twisted on a horse hair core to 1/2 inch. This mecate, sometimes called a McCarty, is 22 feet long and used on both hackamores and snaffle bits. This 1/2″ 6 Strand Mane-Hair Mecate #DK3 will meet the requirements of even the most discriminating reinsman.
We will be happy to tie this mecate to a bosal if you purchase one but you may need to adjust the number of wraps to fit your horse after you receive it. How it works: Horse mane-hair mecates are widely used in the California-vaquero tradition. They are traditionally used on both hackamores and snaffle bits. A horse responds to the feel of the horse hair on their neck better than to many other materials. The traditional material and patterns also look exceptionally good on our horses. This is the ultimate horse hair rope.

$108.00Description: This is a nice mecate to use on your 2 rein bosalita, your snaffle, or to use at home on any hackamore. This Round 3/8″ Nylon Mecate #DMR3, also called a McCarty, is 22 feet long and is made of round 3/8-inch nylon rope. It has a nylon tassel on one end and a latigo popper on the other end. Because of the narrow diameter this is a good rein for smaller hands. The mecate is only available in brown. The tan mecate shown in the picture on the horse is currently unavailable.

Leather Romal Reins with Rawhide Buttons #CCR2
$799.00Description: The Leather Romal is made of doubled and stitched 5/8 inch latigo and the Leather Reins are made of doubled and stitched 1/2 inch latigo. The beautiful rawhide buttons and barrel knots on the reins and romal are all braided by hand. The popper is hand stamped double and stitched skirting leather. The reins and romal are connected with an 1/2 inch latigo strap with rawhide balls and loops and the reins have stainless steel swivel snaps. The romal and reins are each 48 inches long and connectors are 12 inches for a total of 108 inches. If you want to use rein chains and need a shorter rein let me know and I’ll make them just the way you want them. These Leather Romal Reins with Rawhide Buttons (also known as Romel Reins) are being used by professionals. This is a great alternative to the higher priced rawhide romals and are perfect for every day and for show!

Crafting: To make double and stitched romals and reins I take 2 pieces of latigo and split them to the correct thicknesses. Next I glue the 2 pieces together and carefully cut the desired lengths. Finally they’re stitched together. Once the leather is stitched the rawhide buttons are braided on the romal and on the reins.
Double and stitched leather is more durable and longer lasting than single ply leather but is not thicker than single ply leather. These romal reins will have that good feel in your hands. All of the rawhide at Dennis Moreland Tack is produced entirely by hand from start to finish before being braided.
Your rawhide should be conditioned regularly with #ZK Vaquero Rawhide Cream.
