5/8″ Latigo on Latigo Reins, Heavy Weight #BLL2
$149.00Description: Dennis worked closely with the same tannery for years to find a thicker hide just for these 5/8″ Latigo on Latigo Heavy Weight Reins #BLL2. Two pieces of heavy latigo (total of 24 oz.) are tightly stitched together to make this rein 3/8” thick. They’re cut 5/8” wide and either 7′ or 7′ 9″ long (see dropdown for length choices). The 7′ length works well for training the smaller cutting & cow horse colts and for ranch sorters who keep their horses really gathered up through continuous quick turns. The 7’9″ length is a great rein for horses that are 14.2 hands or taller and for riders who want a lot of drape in their reins.
These are a very heavy rein that allows for superb contact with a horse’s face. Dennis’ heavy weight latigo on latigo double & stitched reins are more pliable than the harness leather on latigo reins #BLH58 but they aren’t too heavy or stiff. If properly cared for, they will last for years. Like all of Dennis’ reins, they are hand edged and rubbed. Round 3/8″ Nylon Mecate #DMR3
$108.00Description: This is a nice mecate to use on your 2 rein bosalita, your snaffle, or to use at home on any hackamore. This Round 3/8″ Nylon Mecate #DMR3, also called a McCarty, is 22 feet long and is made of round 3/8-inch nylon rope. It has a nylon tassel on one end and a latigo popper on the other end. Because of the narrow diameter this is a good rein for smaller hands. The mecate is only available in brown. The tan mecate shown in the picture on the horse is currently unavailable.

Leather Romal Reins with Rawhide Buttons #CCR2
$799.00Description: The Leather Romal is made of doubled and stitched 5/8 inch latigo and the Leather Reins are made of doubled and stitched 1/2 inch latigo. The beautiful rawhide buttons and barrel knots on the reins and romal are all braided by hand. The popper is hand stamped double and stitched skirting leather. The reins and romal are connected with an 1/2 inch latigo strap with rawhide balls and loops and the reins have stainless steel swivel snaps. The romal and reins are each 48 inches long and connectors are 12 inches for a total of 108 inches. If you want to use rein chains and need a shorter rein let me know and I’ll make them just the way you want them. These Leather Romal Reins with Rawhide Buttons (also known as Romel Reins) are being used by professionals. Crafting: To make double and stitched romals and reins I take 2 pieces of latigo and split them to the correct thicknesses. Next I glue the 2 pieces together and carefully cut the desired lengths. Finally they’re stitched together. Once the leather is stitched the rawhide buttons are braided on the romal and on the reins.
Double and stitched leather is more durable and longer lasting than single ply leather but is not thicker than single ply leather. These romal reins will have that good feel in your hands. All of the rawhide at Dennis Moreland Tack is produced entirely by hand from start to finish before being braided.
